San José, Costa Rica. April 27th, 2014 – The Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica (MEP) have just launched their mobile application “MEP Móvil” (Spanish for “Mobile MEP”), developed by aPlicativa for Apple iOS and Android, with the sponsorship of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). “MEP Móvil” represents a key step in adopting new technologies for public education, and is focused on three different types of users:
- Students, by means of access to educational and informative materials developed by MEP for their programs “Profe en casa” (Spanish for “Teacher at Home”), “Te invito a leer conmigo” (Spanish for “Let’s Read Together”) and “Convivir” (Spanish for “Living Together”), as well as school calendars, high-school exam contents and regulations for school cafeterias, among many others.
- MEP personnel, through news and forms to carry out transactions, check payment calendars and coordinate appointments in a centralized services platform.
- Parents and family, with videos and documentaries that bring family members closer to the educational process, and establish a link between home values and what is imparted in the classrooms.
In order to access contents provided by “MEP Móvil”, users can register as students, personnel or family members through different means that include using their own Facebook account, which shows the growing interest to integrate education and social networks, an element that is increasingly frequent in the life of students.
The “MEP Móvil” launching event was attended by high representatives of MEP, including the Minister of Education Mr. Leonardo Garnier, as well as delegates of the Costa Rican Technical Secretary of Digital Government, UNICEF and aPlicativa’s team in charge of developing the app. The completion of this project is a fundamental milestone in aPlicativa’s growing involvement in government institutions, joining the already successful applications developed for the Costa Rican Fire Department, the National System of Radio and TV (SINART) and the National Laboratory of Materials, among others.
“MEP Móvil” is now available for download at no cost from the respective app stores:
