San José, Costa Rica. – January 28th, 2013 – The Costa Rican Fire Department has recently launched their new iOS application developed by aPlicativa, which will allow users to stay informed on local and national emergencies. This app is a major breakthrough in the way in which the population is informed about current events, as it displays updated and real-time notifications about the latest emergencies that the institution is handling, including their location, severity and nature. It is particularly useful for voluntary personnel, communicators and people with medical or first-aid training who may be able to provide support on an emergency nearby. In order to make it easier to get to the scene of the emergency, the app displays current events on a local or national map, and suggests a route for quick arrival from the user’s current location. Users can configure the kind of emergencies they want to be notified of, among many types such as fire, traffic accidents, natural disasters and rescue operations.

Just a few days after its release, the “Bomberos CR” app quickly became the #1 free app in downloads in the Costa Rica application store, with very encouraging reviews. This application (with its Android version now being developed), is the first of a series of innovative ideas resulting from the joint effort made by aPlicativa and the meritorious institution from Costa Rica.
